  What is Nolvadex?

  Medically known as Tamoxifen Citrate, Nolvadex is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that was originally intended to treat breast cancer. Today, it is widely applied in bodybuilding due to its ability to intercept the estrogen hormone among other beneficial uses.

  How Nolvadex works

  Estrogen production increases after prolonged use of anabolic steroids and could have adverse effects if left unchecked. Fortunately, Nolvadex has this amazing ability to regulate and not completely stop estrogen production. This allows the body to further synthesize protein and drive metabolism which helps maintain the anabolic changes gained under steroids.

  The human body is conditioned to automatically regulate testosterone production, but this could easily be disrupted by artificial anabolism. You can also use Nolvadex to treat male breasts, otherwise known as gynecomastia. The high presence of estrogen hormones as a result of a masculinizing steroid cycle can cause this abnormality. As mentioned above, Nolvadex reduces the production levels of this hormone, slowing down and ultimately stopping the development of the tissues of the man's breasts. Each Nolvadex pill contains elements that can effectively control water retention in the body. This abnormality causes muscle tissue to sag and accelerates weight gain. Of course, any athlete looking for endurance and speed will want to avoid water retention by all means. Nolvadex also stops the process of catabolism (destructive metabolism). As testosterone levels drop, stress hormones called cortisol are quickly released into the bloodstream. Their high presence in the blood instructs muscle cells to break down protein substrates and lipids abnormally faster. This in turn leads to the regression of muscle mass.

• Dosage of Nolvadex

  The main motive behind the use of Nolvadex is obviously to stop or prevent the unpleasant effects of anabolic steroids. And like any other pharmaceutical drug, correct dosing is necessary to avoid counterproductivity. So here's a quick guide for your next PCT:

  When to start using Nolvadex

  There are two ways to approach post-cycle therapy; start medication two weeks before the end of an anabolic cycle or immediately after the end of the cycle. You can, however, let 3-7 days pass before taking the pills just to allow your body to rest.

• The actual dosage

  Most PCTs last for a month and Nolvadex pills are no exception. Here's what a typical program should look like:
  1. First week – 20 mg per day
  2. Week Two – 20 mg per day
  3. Third week – 20 mg per day
  4. Week Four – 10 mg per day
  Note that during the last week, the dosage is lowered. Why is this so? By the fourth week, your body will have acquired a hormonal balance and will therefore only need a small external supply to support the changes. However, if your body recovers too slowly, consider adding Clomid to the dosage in similar amounts.

• Side effects of Nolvadex

  As we stated earlier, Nolvadex will essentially allow your body to monitor and control estrogen levels. Therefore, you are likely to experience any of the following side effects. Don't worry, they'll disappear after a while. These are:
  • Muscle cramps in the legs
  • Feeling like vomiting or mild nausea
  • Decreased libido
  • Headaches followed by hot flashes due to an increase in body temperature
  • Increased skin sensitivity to touch
  • Hair thinning
  • Vaginal itching for female users
  • Pulmonary embolism (although rare)
